“We fish for hours only to hold a trout for seconds”– Unknown

RECENTLY FRIENDS FROM the Montreal area visited the region. Pierre had experience fishing lakes but never trout streams in the Rocky Mountains. We spent four days combing a few freestone rivers. He said he did not have a lot of experience casting a fly rod. With some basic tips, however, within one-half of a day he was able to consistently get the fly where he wanted to and in front of trout. He even threw tight loops into the wind. In short order he became a natural at casting, wading rivers and reading the water. His athleticism and calm, patient manner and positive attitude were a real advantage. And with all of that came great success. Some beautiful Cutthroat trout were caught on dry flies, admired and released. It was an easy and enjoyable hosting/guiding experience for me. It was a breeze. A great guy to spend a day with on the river. I hope he returns to visit again. Some images captured on our outings…

  1. Hi Bob,

You guys caught some nice fish! I recognize some of the places in your photos! The waters look like they are in great shape! Good to see this!

    • Vic: All rivers are in good shape. Yes, you’ve been on all the rivers I fished with Pierre…there’s very few you haven’t been on!! We caught some nice fish…ones posted are just from my cell phone…took many on his phone which are not in post

Hope all is well and that Shelly& Zoey doing fine.

I have a day on Alexander creek on Monday…I’ll retrace sections/pools you guided me on on that great angling day. Drove up there today, higher up to Dead Mans road bridge and hiked several pools…drakes started at around noon.

Okay, thanks for commenting. I guess you’ll be returning to CNP in Sept?

  2. That was truly a memorable experience for me. While the fishing was amazing, the true privilege was to be guided by you, walking those magnificent rivers fully immersed in nature’s beauty. I think you can talk to the fish. You certainly understand their behaviors at a different level. Seeing you quietly observe, indicating exactly where the trout would be, suggesting the best approach, adjusting the flies when the fish were indifferent etc. made the whole experience very special. You even seemed excited when I was catching one.

Looking forward to spend time with you and Rebecca next year

Enjoy the rest of the season

    • Hi Pierre: Thanks for the kind words. Fun days we had out there. I can assure you some days I try talking to the trout but they don’t listen. The “stars aligned” for us. Best of health to you and Valerie in the upcoming year…
