searching for treasure

Many miles put in this September wading tough clear freestone rivers with slippery boulders. With the Fall waning light, long shadows and cooler temperatures, hatches, if there are going to be any, are an afternoon event. That’s when the trout become most active and are most likely to rise. That’s when the river comes alive. That’s when a good one may show itself and the time walking and searching can pay- off.

A wild, native trout (Cutthroat) caught on a dry fly while searching in the Autumn afternoon light. Treasure found…

  1. Hi Bob,

You covered a lot of water this month. All that walking paid off – you found some great cutts. They don’t get any nicer than the one in the first photo.

  2. Vic: Yes those Cutthroat trout are magnificent creatures as are the rivers they thrive in, as you know very well. I have put in a lot of angling miles this past month. My knees are reminding me that I have…and on rocky surfaces. They’ll welcome the end of the season which is not too far off. Thanks for commenting.

  3. Jim: Thanks for comment on post. I’ve been following your blog but having difficulty posting comments for some reason. Will try again. Great photos of the H Fork on your blog. Continued success this Fall.

  4. Fat and healthy! Love it. Have you been to brown town this fall yet? Has been a bug factory for last few weekends every time I’m out. Hope all is well!

    • Daniel: Nice hearing from you….a voice from the Hallowed Halls of University. Hope your start to the academic year has been good. To answer your question, “no” I haven’t fished Brown Town in a month…maybe longer. I have heard it is producing from a fellow at my Gym. Sounds like you have been visiting it when you get a chance to put your books and spectacles down such as on weekends. Hope you are making some good connections on that river. I’m sure you are. I’m going to go soon; within the upcoming week. I’ve been fishing those Cutt Creeks. Several kms logged on WCreek..covered every inch of those kms. Bugs there every time I go. Will have to get a mountain bike to explore further upstream… That’s the plan for next summer. Fished our favorite regional cutt creek other day. Caught just one very good one. Very few bugs. Little flow…not fishing super like last Fall. Was on FCreek/river today over the border. Fished a section you have been on: from roads end where slide is, up to green bridge. It was cloudy and rainy. Few bugs. No risers. No anglers. No bears. Caught many but no world record…great pools…if there had been bugs might have spotted a few good ones. Saw bulls. Didn’t have my hamster fly or proper wt rod. Those cutt creeks always fish better for me when sunny.
Continued success on weekends fellow FarBank Pro….might run in to you there.
