SOME NIGHTS HAVE BEEN COLD. I HEAR the furnace kicking-in in the wee hours. Rivers are cooling down. There are fewer late afternoon rising fish. They are retreating. Bottom hugging. The big sleep is coming. I just read John Gierach passed away. A big loss. If you are a fly fisher you know whom I talking about.

A bittersweet end to the season. Good fishing or mediocre, they all fly by. As do friends, including the ones we’ve never met. We think we have All the Time in the World.

“The big sleep is coming.” I like that, and I’m seeing it as well, though probably slower than in your neck of the woods. A little taste of late fall/early winter is on its way to us courtesy of our northwest friends too. Squeeze a few more in.
Jim: It looks pretty much over up here. Few bugs, only little risers on streams I’ve been on. Good luck rest of season and in Campeche if you go again. I’m going to venture down to Texas coast and try and catch a few Redfish on a sand flat region I’ve been to in past. I always enjoy the environment and shallow water challenge.
