Walked a good part of the day on a freestone river in heavy wildfire smoke. It’s burning to the west of me. I had tied some quick dry flies for the outing. Mid-afternoon I hooked and chased a beautiful Cutthroat trout a long way downstream. In spite of several obstacles I got lucky and landed it. Shortly after I broke a rod tip. I was okay with that. The tip can be replaced and I had just landed a stunning wild fish in clear fast water. Felt my good luck outweighed my bad luck. The broken rod ended the day as I was an hour upstream from my vehicle. After the thrilling catch the walk back was effortless…

Jim: You had a cracker of a season so far! Mine never really got of the ground….improving lately…hopefully it will continue into Fall.
Enjoy rest of summer…smokey here for a few weeks now. Need rain.

Vic: Broke the tip on a tfo, bvk 4wt which I purchased I believe around 2010/11…approx 16yrs old. TFO/Spingbrook/Calgary sold to a large outdoor firm in Quebec. I didn’t think I’d be able to get a tip on such an old rod…as bvk replaced by the Legacy model awhile back. Anyway the Quebec Co had a good web page, they had replacement tips to old models to my surprise, and I directly ordered it and should get it early next week. I didn’t even mention the warrenty online….the tip, taxes and shipping UPS came to about $70…..happy with that and that i can continue casting with the old rod…
